For the academic year 2022–2023, CHDC at the University of Port Harcourt is accepting applications for its PGD and MSc programs in counseling psychology. There are alternatives for both full-time and part-time employment. The Center's goal is to equip students with the professional knowledge and transferable skills they need to succeed in the area of counseling. Enroll before June 30, 2023.
Admission to the UNIPORT Human Development and Counseling Center
The Counseling and Human Development Center (CHDC) at the University of Port Harcourt is happy to announce that the admissions process for the PGD and MSc degree programs in Counseling Psychology for the academic year 2022–2023 has begun.
History of the Center for Counseling and Human Development
Since its establishment on November 30, 2021, the CHDC has carried the torch for the University of Port Harcourt's objective to aspire to the same standards as other prestigious institutions of higher learning. The University Senate has approved the PGD and MSc programs in counseling psychology offered by the Center, attesting to their excellence and applicability.
Mission of the Center
The CHDC acts as a focal point for academic, professional, and mental health development, helping graduate students to identify opportunities and build skills essential to their success beyond graduation. The Centre places a greater emphasis on giving students practical skills and professional expertise in certain fields than it does on imparting general knowledge. Graduates of this extensive training are certain to remain knowledgeable and useful in the evolving profession of counseling.
Current Programs
The following postgraduate degree programs are available through the Center:
Master's Degree (MSc) in specific fields, including: Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counseling Psychology
Student Counseling
Family, Couple, and Marital Counselling
Counseling for children and adolescents
Rehabilitation for Addiction Gerontological and grief counseling, clinical and mental health counseling, social work, and rehabilitation counseling Counselling
Entry requirements
Candidates having a Bachelor's degree (minimum Third Class Honors) from a recognized university or an Upper Credit HND from a recognized polytechnic are invited to apply for the PGD program at the Center. Education and social science are relevant disciplines.
Candidates must have earned a B.Sc./B.Ed. in social sciences, education, or similar fields from an accredited university with a least Second Class Lower Division to be eligible for the MSc program. An alternative is a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), which might be in social work, management, the social sciences, or education.
Study Method and Length
The Center provides a modular, adaptable hybrid paradigm that combines in-person instruction and live video conferencing. Students are able to conveniently select their study times thanks to this.
The curriculum can be finished by full-time students in as little as 12 months and as much as 24 months. A minimum of 18 and a maximum of 36 months are given to part-time students to finish their curriculum and a personal research project.

Application forms are available through the CHDC office on the Abuja Campus (Ground Floor, Central Instrument Laboratory Building, Near Procurement Office, Adjacent UniportBottling Company). Payment of the $25,000 non-refundable application fee must be made to the CHDC account (1100256678) at U & C Microfinance Bank Ltd, University of Port Harcourt, in order to submit the completed form.
The application period ends on June 30, 2023.
